5 STARS FOR JOSH OUR AMAZING WAITER!! My friends and I went last night and the service was above par! We had one too many drinks and in doing so, forgot to leave a good tip for Josh :( Next time we will request him and make up for the correct tip we should have left him!! Thank you Joshy! (And the food was great as per usual)

Well - I finally saw what all the fuss is about - what a great place. We had 4 people order the king cut, a round of drinks and a bottle of wine - and got out of there for 65/person! So not only is it fantastic food, but really not a bad price either. My ONE complaint - would be to tell the waiter to chill out on the loaded baked potato. Its the first time I have ever thought - I wish there wasn't so much bacon on my potato! They overload it a bit, its a bit extreme. But Otherwise a fantastic meal, atmosphere, and experience. I am not the BIGGEST Prime Rib fan, but if you are, this is a must visit .

I have been coming to the House of Prime Ribs for years. I love the spinning salad bowl, the cart with the marvelous prime rib, the delicious side dishes. Reservations are very hard to come by, since it is so very popular. It is so busy that it can be a little loud, but you do come for the food. We had a fairly quiet table and had terrific service from our waiter. My only complaint was that my dinner was swimming in so much au jus that I could hardly cut the meat without it splattering off the plate.

From the 3 week reservation to the 1+ hr wait until I took my first bite of prime rib, The House of Prime Rib was one big show that led to one big disappointment. Rarely do I use this word, but I uttered it during the end of dinner. That, my friend, is the word, 'over-hyped'. Made a reservation for 2 at 8:30pm on a Friday night. This, mind you, was a 3 week reservation because that was the next time slot available. I was muy caliente EXCITED about having HoPR for the first time. I have made many attempts before, but have failed to actually eat here (including my 25th birthday celebration). The menu was simple enough.

Excellent prime rib (King Henry cut ftw). Au jus is fantastic. Yorkshire pudding is fluffy goodness. Cream spinach was meh. Service was meh. No complaint about the food, but had to wait like half an hour to receive a coke. And when homeboy was spinning the salad, I got a nice splatter of dressing on me but instead of an apology I got a "Oh, its okay. No problem." what? lol. Even w/ a reservation we had to wait a while but overall the food lived up to its high expectation. Friend mentioned that it was almost exactly like Lowry's but he preferred his experience at Lowry's since he had better service there.

Why have I not written a review yet? Hands down they have the best prime rib ever. Service is amazing as always. Salad and bread makes me so full I barely put a dent on my prime rib. I always end up taking the prime rib home in my little awesomely packed to go box and little red bag and it's still good. I ask for secret menu pink horseradish that my friend Pauline told me about. Yum. And try the corn bread shaped like a piece of corn. I'm not a fan of creamed spinach, so I get the creamed corn. Oooh. dessert. I've tried the creme brulee, bread pudding, fantasy cake, and the warm apple crisp. Yummm. Go with more people so you can try their desserts. :)

Quintessential San Francisco restaurant with laughably large pieces of delicious prime rib and the best mashed potatoes EVER. Have out of town relatives coming to visit? Take them here (don't forget to make a reservation)! It's kind of pricey and super touristy, but worth it for the excellent food, friendly service, and fun experience.

ummmmmmm what can I say besides AMAZING each and every time. I am not a fan of prime rib in general but this place has me licking my fingers each and every time I eat here. Make sure to ask for the second plate so you can get your moneys worth, especially considering I noticed they have raised there prices. This place is an SF staple and is a must try at least twice. I usually get the english cut which is the thinly sliced prime rib. Make sure to bring your appetite because you get delicious warm bread, salad, and two sides with your prime rib.

This is one my favorite restaurants in the city. I've been going here for more then 20 years now when the prices of the prime rib where in the $20s but yeah 20 years later its in the $40s but still worth it for what you get. Warm bread at the start. Then salad with their custom dressing tossed by the waiter. Their salad is very distinct with slices of beets if you've come here more then once you will end up always remembering the salad. You can order baked potato or mashed potato. I always go for mash because it mixes well with the Green Spinach. And then the prime rib. I usually get the end cut because to me it is really tasty. For some reason I like my prime rib cooked at the end cut here and you get it bone in. The prime rib is really tender. They give you au jus and bread pudding that soaks it up. If your still hungry feel free to ask for more mashed, cream spinach, even meat if you got the king cut. House always aims to please. We we're lucky we had reservations at 8 but we got there early and we were immediately seated. Fastest seating I ever had at house. I even saw a ex 49er there. But I won't say who it is. Let's just say I went in Sunday May 24th and he got into legal trouble the next morning. Definitely come here if you want to feel satisfied. Right now I always go there because its almost comfort food. It's so good. I even had came out with some left overs that still taste really good the next day. So good. Drool!!! Till next time.

Kelly was my waitress. She was very good for being extremely busy since it is Memorial Day weekend. Reservation was for 8pm. Checked in at 735. Seated in 10 mins at 745. Awesome!!! Very excellent (yes, that's right)!!! 5 STAR Best Prime Rib cooked to my (med rare) perfection. The cream spinach was absolutely delicious and the fully loaded baked potato was clean enough to eat the skin. Apple crisp a la mode was heavenly. Haven't gone? Or been to HOPR? Gotta go !!! Be forewarned. It is $$$ out of $$$$, so bring the Card. But worth every $ & minute ( never rushed to leave, 2 hrs ).

House of Prime Rib serves up some delicious, consistent prime rib. And I love that you can a cut of seconds and thirds. I've come here so hungry I've had thirds. Maybe if I had ordered the King Henry cut, I would have only had seconds. Anyway, I also love the spinach that they serve here. I think the price is reasonable. But make reservations if you are coming here on the weekend.

This place does live up to its reputation! First, you need to make dinner reservations at least a month or two in advance, or you will be eating at bed time. Our reservations were for 9:30 pm. I wasn't happy about this, but that is all they had available. My husband and I arrived at 9:15 pm and checked in with the host. The main dining room was so loud, it was obnoxious! While waiting in the bar area it was difficult to talk or think for that matter because of the noise. At 9:35 pm, we were seated in a back room with a fire place. It was much quieter! Thank God! We were served HOT bread with butter and a carafe of water. Shortly after our waiter, Justin, arrived to take our order. Because it was our first time, he explained the cuts of prime rib and the sides. The prime rib was cut and cooked perfectly. It had amazing flavor and tasted delicious. The bake potato was huge and was piled high with bacon and butter. Yum! The cream corn and salad were also good. The Yorkshire pudding was crispy and was a great addition to the prime rib. The portions are huge, so we didn't have room for dessert. However, the dessert menu looked delicious. I plan to have it on my next visit. Justin was very attentive to our table and provided excellent customer service!

My ultimate fave place to get prime rib here in NorCal. The meat is sooo soft and tender, like butter. I've had it at other places and it doesn't come close to this place. The Yorkshire pudding, salad, and sides are all wonderful and tasty. I come here at least twice a year.

Amazing prime rib, really decent portions. And since we got the largest cut, what was for dessert? A smaller cut about 4oz! Will definitely return again and again!

How can you go wrong with a giant piece of prime rib on your plate? If you're not into the super bloody stuff, I suggest getting the end piece. The end piece is exactly what it sounds like. It's the piece on the end of the prime rib, meaning, whatever they're using to marinate is covered on all sides on this piece. So your get all the extra flavor goodness. Sides offered are creamed spinach and your choice of either baked or mashed potatoes. Both are delicious. You could also ask for corn in replacement if spinach or potatoes is not your thing. Their horse radish sauces is good on everything. Also, their house salad is one of my all time favorite salads. I could eat that everyday. Some disappointments are the wait. The wait can be over two hours depending on when you go. You can try open table for reservations but I never usually have any luck on there. Also! The first time I came here, there was corn bread, the last two times, I didn't get any corn bread.

Best. Meal. Ever. Seriously! Go here! But make reservations well in advance. Absolutely everything about this place was excellent...staff, drinks, ambience, and especially the food! My husband loves the prime rib I make at home in Montana, but pretty much told me not to bother anymore...and I have to agree with him. Nothing could compare.

I love this place! It's a throwback from the 70's but it still has great legs! I love the meat zeppelins that bring the meat I love the dressing of the salad show, I love the "you want more?" after you've eaten half a cow, I love it all. I found out about this place when I moved to San Francisco in the early 90's and my home phone number was one digit off from theirs. I got phone calls for reservations everyday. After 2 years of this abuse I finally went to see what all the fuss was about, boy am I glad I had that phone number! I hated all the phone calls but I love the place it's still as good today as it was back then. Get clearance from your cardiologist and go.

Dude, it is a HOUSE of PRIME RIB! AMAZING. This place never ceases to amaze me. Salad = good Prime rib = good But wait, there's more! This also comes with your choice of potato (both good), Yorkshire pudding (good, but I don't eat it because its too filling and takes away room for more meat), and choice of creamed corn or spinach (I find the spinach too salty so I go with the corn). I absolutely love this place.

My favorite fancy special occasion restaurant in SF! It's fancy/expensive enough for special occasions but not wallet breaking. I'm currently trying to work my way up to places like Alexander's Steakhouse but can't fathom dropping that much for one meal quite yet. Until I get to that level, I'm perfectly happy with House of Prime Rib. I've had Lawry's before which is basically the same thing as HOPR and I like HOPR so much better. Not only did the meat and au jus taste better but Lawry's charges you for every side dish while HOPR doesn't. Reservations are pretty hard to get last minute so make sure to plan ahead! Especially if you're eating on a weekend during prime dinner time. Parking is difficult but I've managed to find street parking whenever I'm here. If you're running late or have lost patience, there is always valet parking. HOPR makes it super easy for you to order; just decide how much you want, how you'd like it cooked, and your sides. All the sides and salad are included in the one price which makes your meal cost particularly predictable. I always get the House cut, medium rare, with mashed potato and creamed corn. Your meal starts with the sourdough bread. I try to refrain from eating too much of the bread to save room for the meat. The sourdough bread is standard but good. Next comes the spinning salad. I'm not a big salad person but I could eat HOPR's salad all day. Something about that dressing! I have to muster a lot of self control to refrain from finishing all of the salad so I'll have enough room for my main dish. The prime rib is perfect and delicious. Au jus is perfect as well and I always like a lot of it. The yorkshire pudding is great and perfect for absorbing some of the au jus. I usually immediately put the yorkshire pudding off to the side so it doesn't absorb all of the au jus while I'm eating. Mashed potatoes are standard but good. Not too fond of the creamed spinach so I get the creamed corn which is pretty standard as well. When I'm done with my House cut, I get the free extra slice! I have about a 40% success rate of making it to the extra slice since the meat is pretty filling and even the salad is delicious. Overall, highly highly recommend this place!

After waiting years to try this place and hearing so many rave reviews of how amazingly awesome the Prime Rib is here I can now finally say that I have tasted a hearty slice of heaven from the meat Gods! When you open the menu, there's literally only 1 item. Yup, Prime Rib baby! The only difference is how thick you would like your cut to be. The have the English Cut which are thin slices of very flavorful meat. The House of Prime Rib Cut is the standard cut that's about 1 inch thick. The King Henry VIII is their largest cut which is served with the bone in and let's just say it's freaking HUGE! Every order comes with creamed spinach, their famous mashed potatoes or baked potato, and the Yorkshire pudding. I ordered the House of Prime Rib Cut medium-rare which was just right for me. Fairly thick slice but still the most tender piece of prime rib that I have ever gotten in my life! The cut is literally swimming in a pool of their delicious au jous sauce which seems like a lot, but trust me it's just enough! The first bite for me was truly epic! The meat was so tender and juicy I could hear myself moaning from the pure excitement and satisfaction. And then when I combined all three (prime rib, spinach, and mashed potatoes) it was such just spectacular. They all compliment each other so well. It's difficult to describe this in words, but trust me it is absolutely excellent! By the last slice, I had soaked up all of the au jous with the meat and mashed potatoes which was awesome! This place is called the House of Prime Rib because it truly houses the best of the best when it comes to Prime Rib. The meat is perfectly aged and cooked so it is as juicy, tender, and as flavorful as possible when served. The service here is outstanding too. Our server was very attentive and always had a smile on her face. This place serves the best prime rib I have ever had and I would highly recommend this to anyone! $43 for this godlike piece of meat is honestly worth it! I hope to come back soon. You guys deserve all the of the high ratings you have earned over the years because this is something very special and I hope more people get to experience the pleasure that I did.

Night was well done at House of Prime Rib! What's meaty +'s: + The portions are robust. Took my share home which included the House Cut, mashed potatoes, cream of spinach with bacon and Yorkshire pudding. + House Cut is juicy, tender and flavorful. My cut was medium rather than medium rare. My boyfriend's was oddly medium rare. + Eat your prime rib on the bed of Yorkshire pudding that gets served. It soaks up the juice and is complimentary to the meat and varying levels of horseradish sauces that come on the side. + Iceberg salad is dressed with sherry and apple cider secret recipe from 1949. Watch your server spin the salad and serve with chilled fork. + Warm sourdough bread and cornbread to start + Awesome service! The owner even came by our table to check on us and happily replaced our drink when something dropped into the glass. What's fatty -'s: - Noise is much. Boisterous groups can neighbor your table even on a weekday night. - Reservations are tight. Booked our dinner 1-2 months in advance and could only snag a 8:30 on a Wednesday night. Such an enjoyable spot with great service! Love this place for its food, atmosphere and service. You might catch some sightings of recognizable faces like the former mayor, Willie Brown and what not.

Prime rib was amazing, and all the sides with it! Definitely worth the splurge. Plus the servers are on top of their customer service game. Incredible place and environment, i think its worth the darn hype. Recommended: King Henry's cut. Soooo good!

Food semi compensates for the lackluster customer service! After dining at numerous steakhouses across the country ( Smith & Wollensky, Cut, Peter Lueger's ), this place is mediocre. This establishment is a tourist trap, reflected by the attitudes of its bar servers, especially Jessie. This server was mentioned in a prior scathing review and I am surprised she still is employed there! The prime rib was served at the perfect temperature but lacked in flavor. This place would be delicious to those who do not know how to grill a steak or consider chili's gourmet! But for those that are carnivores that appreciate a well cooked steak, save your time and money and go to Flemming's or even Ruth Chris! The staff at check in are not very bright, they cannot find you in their system even if you write out your name for them. Luckily my husband found our confirmation email, then the host miraculously found our reservation.

Had a really good experience at House of Prime Rib. Unfortunately, it took us about 2 years to make it to this place because we could never mind a good reservation time. But I'm glad we were persistent about it because it was great. Prime rib was solid, all the sides were great. If you leave hungry, it is your own damn fault.

It just dawned on me, i haven't reviewed this amazing place yet...complete meat heaven... Once you struggle to find parking, which isn't to huge of a deal... You walk in and announce your arrival per reservation of course. The smell of meat is in the air, drinks are flowing and you cant wait to get to you seat! They have this meat cart FULL of meat and sides. Need i say more? This place has mastered making the best damn Prime Rib you have ever tasted! We went here a year ago for my hubby's birthday, then again with some friends two more times. Its pretty addicting! But you must starve yourself prior to going, they give you so much food AND if you finish ALL of your original cut, you get another free with sides to assure you leave feeling like a fatty beach ball. But let me tell you, its sooooooo work it.... We are going there tonight for dinner and we can't wait! Nom Nom!!!! Our cost for two, was around $100 without alcohol. Very reasonable for an amazing meal. Enjoy!!! I know we will....

Ok this place has a small menue and everything that's on it is cooked to perfection. They do prime rib and they do it well! The atmosphere is lively and the food is remarkable. Parking garages are around the corner and there are some street parking spots if you can be lucky enough to grab them. I would recommend this place to anyone! It's a must to go when you are in the mood for a classy and filling dinner!

I'm not going to overcomplicate this review, just like how you shouldn't overthink the menu here. It's called House of PRIME RIB!!! Can't find a spot within a block or two? Don't waste your time and just valet. No reservation? The bar is full service with plenty of seats if you come before dinner service. Plenty of bottled beer . Dining room seems to be sectioned off into 3 separate rooms. 2 are dimly lit, 1 is fairly lit and is louder than the other 2. Your choices for dinner are as follows: City Cut, smallest adult portion House Cut, easily could fill an adult English Cut, thinner cut, same size as House cut King's Cut, bone in, not for the feint of heart. Kid's Cut, comes with milk and ice cream These all come with House Salad, spun table side Yorkshire pudding Creamed spinach (Creamed corn too if you ask) Baked or Mashed Potato, loaded or not. They also offer Fish... And Steak a la carte. If you ordered the house/english or king's cut and finish it, you are offered another small slice to send you off into your food coma. All in all, you're here for steak, so steak it up!

The best of the best. Prime rib is my favorite kind of meat, and this place just topped it off! Service was excellent. Make sure you make a reservation for this place, unless you want to eat prime rib at a bar... The sides, creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, and the yorkshire pudding comes with any of the cut you order. I ordered the House of Prime Rib cut. To tell you the truth, after having some bread and salad, I was pretty full by the time my prime rib came out, which I was sad. Cause I could't really enjoy my meal at the full extent. But, it was still delicious! My boyfriend ordered the King Henry's cut. This cut is bigger than the House of Prime Rib cut and includes the bone. I am not a fan of vegetables, but this creamed spinach was delicious. I could eat these for days. Our server had a thick accent but he was very funny and sweet. He took photos for us and even edited it, which looked pretty good! I absolutely enjoyed my visit to House of Prime Rib. I will definitely be coming back here when I am in San Francisco again! Thank you!

Well i'm just gonna add a review to the staggering amount of praises for house of prime rib. This institution sets the standard for prime rib in the bay. Reservation was tough to get. I booked a month ahead and only got the late night 9:30 reservation on a weekday. This place is very very popular so book well in advance. Prepare to hop back in time when you enter. The environment feels dated but unique and nostalgic. I had a king henry's cut and split it with a friend. The charge for splitting was 7.50 but both people get their own choice of potato dish, salad, and yorkshire pudding so the split plate charge is warranted. The yorkshire pudding was very delicious. The king henry's cut feeds two people well. I didn't get stuffed and enter food coma. My cut did contain quite a lot of fat so cutting it away reduced the size of the prime rib substantially. Service is excellent. The server was very friendly. However, the server could speed the process up a bit since we sat around for awhile in between dishes. But I went in a group so we just sat and talk so the time we waited did not seem bothersome but this will be a different case on a boring date or a casual dining session. My recommendation is to just speed it up. Plus other diners will get a table if the process is sped up. Overall 5 stars, excellent food!

The "zepplin" they serve the meat out of is covered in silver duck tape - seriously check it out. For the money they charge and the simplicity of the menu you would think they could splurge for newer ones. The martinis are served in cool shakers - but mine was watered down. The meat is "fine", the sides are "fine", the salad is way over-dressed and cheap chain restaurant lettuce...the waiters check out once they "do the show" - good luck getting more ice water. I found my leftovers were better the next day chopped up and heated and served in a tortilla.

Nice place, very old school. I like the idea of this place but the execution failed. First off, we waited about 5 minutes for any contact at all, we received some room temperature sourdough bread and butter and waters. Then the waiter came and took our drink orders, we were served our salad before the cocktails arrived ..., very poor form. We were then pushed to order our meals, I should have pushed back but didn't:(. The food arrived and it wasn't bad, but I've made Prime Rib dozens of times and I'd say it's been better than this 75% of the time. The mashed potatoes were outstanding, but the gravy tasted like a mix. Creamed spinach and Yorkshire pudding just ok. I would have bought a nice bottle of wine and hung out for a while, but they clearly wanted to turn tables. This at a restaurant that was highly recommended and reserved 2 months ahead for a 25th Anniversary trip to SF. 3 Stars for food 2 Stars for Service 4 Stars for restaurant interior and look. I will never return and have told several people the same. Sad, apparently they really don't appreciate their customers other than their $$$.

I'm not a big meat-eater but boy this was delicious. Came with a group of people from work and pretty much the only choice you have to make for food is how big of a piece you want to eat and how you want it cooked. Easy! The steak was soo tender and before I knew it I finished it and the sides (yorkshire pudding is the BEST!). If you finish your piece and want more, you can ask for the dessert cut and get a thin slice to close out the night. HMMMMM

I have been going here for a number of years. We have taken our out of state guests here and they loved it. I used to think, I better eat some salad with my meal. The salad is a good choice, packed with ingredients and very filling. But after a few time with ordering the salad, I found I could better enjoy my entree without the salad. I have tried the City Cut, but the best choice is House of Prime Rib cut. I order the cut to be medium (pink center) and added with the sauce, a great combination. There was only one occassion where I was still hungry and asked for a cut, but every meal, that is a lot of food to consume. I would highly recommend this place, but try to make reservatoins, drop ins are always a long wait.

My Favorite Thing Here: My Least Favorite Thing Here: What We Had: English Cut Prime Rib with Sides: Creamed Corn, Creamed Spinach, Yorkshire Pudding, Corn Bread, Baked Potato, and more that I just can't remember... I had heard of this place through my cousin, who has a voracious appetite for all things in life. So when she told me this place is the shit, I believed her and anxiously awaited the day I would have amazing prime rib. Also, I want to say that I enjoyed this meal because I was so hungry and starved myself so as to precious real estate in my tummy for prime rib and all its sides, but I didn't. I didn't listen and way over-snacked during lunch. Didn't matter anyway! The whole meal was great! We got there a smidge late because of pride week festivities, but they were so accommodating and we were seated immediately. First we had yummy fresh bread with a salad that was so simple, yet amazing! Then came the meat. At first, it was very daunting.... three slices of prime rib? AND SIDES? How on earth was I going to fit all of that? and OMG, the horse radish sauce options! SO GOOD. Well, I not only finished my three slices, the salad and a good portion of my sides, but I got a fourth slice! I was high-fived by the waiter and the fourth slice was promptly brought over. I was DEVASTATED though when I discovered that our waiter had accidentally taken away my side of creamed corn! I had been saving that to eat with my extra slice of prime rib... The waiter was so kind though and packed me a to-go whole side of creamed corn for me to take home! I LOVE IT HERE. Damn. Writing this review has brought back all these memories and now... all I want is some more prime rib!

The prime rib is good, but the salad is much better. It is great seeing them spin the salad in front of you. The dressing is what makes the salad. The prime rib is always good here and I have never been disappointed. So, why the 3 star rating? Basically, they rush you out. They seat you, serve you quickly, then get you out. I was there for maybe 1 hr and 15 min which was a very fast dinner. Maybe they had to turn the table quick here. It is not the same as I remembered with the price of the meals, you should be able to enjoy the meal alittle longer. I am reluntant to come back.

I'm a huge fan of prime rib. So I was pretty excited to hear my cousin decided to make dinner reservations for us for her birthday here. Especially after reading all the great reviews. Menu is pretty simple and set. Pick your prime rib cut, mash or creamed corn, salad, bread, and how you like your prime rib to be cooked. Best way is medium rare. I recommend making reservations in advanced or you can be waiting one up to two hours. They cut your prime rib right in front of you. Which was pretty awesome to watch and experience. First bit I was in love. So soft, tender, juicy, and great marbling. House salad was different, But I loved every bite. Next time i'm in San Francisco, I will definitely make time for House of prime rib. My cousins and partner thought it wasn't anything special. So I will need to do some convincing.

Please understand that this particular establishment is the perfect combination of class, quality, and service. That this place is beyond the meat and whipped spinach pictures on instagram and Yelp. A true "you get what you pay for and so much more" experience in the best city in the world. So here it goes.... From the very beginning, it was a great experience. Conveniently located on Van Ness, one of the main streets in Downtown San Francisco. Parking can be a problem in the city which is why I am grateful for their cheap and easy valet service. Trust me, $10 is well worth it, especially if your dinner reservation is coming up in 5 minutes. Me and my party of 14 were all greeted with a warm welcome and a smile at the front in seconds. The ambiance of the restaurant was very classy and almost immediately persuades you to buy some bottles of fine wine at the start. The waiters and wine experts really take the time to interact with you, making sure you're good and taken care of each minute. Like everyone else, I was enticed by all the food pictures posted by friends on social media, and so it shall remain. The food was outstanding! They cook the meat to perfection, tender and full of that sauce we all love so much. The House of Prime Rib cut was the right amount for me to not be uncomfortably full. If available, they surprise you by offering more meat until you are completely satisfied. It is currently July 9th, 2015... I had my birthday dinner there on July 1st. Writing this review was on my to do list for a while, main reason being the great service that was given to me and my friends. The service was definitely one for the books. I originally invited and made reservations for 10 people to come and enjoy a nice dinner by the bay for my birthday. I kind of invited (and truly sorry for this) 4 more people to join the dinner. Not knowing how strict their reservation guidelines were, I was stuck and did not know what to do. Thankfully, their manager and waiters assured us that they would do their best to accommodate my friends and I. Through some hard work, they were able to extend our table and seat all 14 people. They did not make me feel irresponsible once, unlike other restaurants. I knew this was not an easy task to do and for my poor planning I would like to say THANK YOU for the kind services and making my birthday a very special and memorable one. I will definitely be back and tell more friends about this experience. My advice to all the Yelpers out there is PLEASE stick to your reservation size, plan accordingly and enjoy one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Thanks HOPR!

HoPR is always an excellent experience. The service, food, ambiance are consistently great. We've been here a bunch of times for birthdays and anniversaries and we are never disappointed. The salad is probably my favorite part of the meal. They prime rib is delicious and if you leave this place hungry, it's your own fault because every time you turn your head, there's more food coming your way. Definitely worth the $$$ for a special occasion or if you just want to enjoy a really great, classic meal.

Went on a Monday and it was crowded but I was able to get one of the few seats at the bar. I had the King Henry cut and it was very good, not as large as I expected and I finished it because I didn't focus on the salad, potato or other stuff. But I wasn't offered an extra side of meat, of well, they were busy. But the meat was tender and juicy although I wished it was warmer.

It's all about the meat. Prime rib is excellent, cut right before they serve you. Several different cuts and doneness. The surprise is the salad, it is excellent and great way to start. The staff is non-stop, you will not be ignored, in fact, once seated they make sure all your wishes are met. If you are not a meat eater, they have two fish specials- the "strange" person at our table who order salmon said it was excellent. Extensive wine list from reasonable to outrageous. There is a reason it has been around since 1949.

I've been here multiple times and on this last one the prime rib & sides were great, as usual. What was different this time was we waited to be seated for forty minutes after our scheduled (8:30) reservation. I would never insult a place like HOPR by arriving forty minutes late and then demanding to be seated. I expect the same level of courtesy in return. If you do not have the capacity, do not make the reservation. The final twist of the knife? Watching someone without a reservation ("I made one, you must have lost it!") scream and complain and demand to talk to the manager... get seated next to us and served first.

A classic San Francisco experience. Reasonably priced, great food, and always fun. Save room for a bonus extra slice of beef if you clear your plate.

3.5 We finally made it to this SF institution to celebrate my husband's birthday. The prime rib wasn't life-changing or anything but it was very good and definitely a fun experience. The menu is very simple - just 5 different cuts of prime rib (priced mostly in the low $40s). Every cut comes up with a huge helping of overdressed salad, warm, crusty sourdough bread, a baked or mashed potato, creamed corn or creamed spinach, and a Yorkshire pudding, which is like a cross between a Dutch baby and a popover. With the exception of the sourdough, which was excellent, the sides were really lackluster (we tried all of them between the two of us). The prime rib is definitely the star. I had the English cut (thin-sliced) and my husband had the HOPR cut (second smallest). I liked mine, but felt a little ripped off because I clearly got less meat than my husband, even though our entrees were the same price. Because we were celebrating my husband's birthday, they sang to him and gave him a scoop of free vanilla bean ice cream with a candle. That was really nice. They also took a picture that they printed out and gave to us - nice touch! There are SO many people celebrating birthdays here. They must have sung at least 6 times during our meal. Reservations are a must and you must make them well in advance. $10 valet parking.

I went there for a graduation dinner. The restaurant looks very authentic in its decoration and service. The steak is amazing and the sides are great too. The bar also has some good drinks to try!

The meat is deliscious! !! The server is so nice and very accommodating. I had the city cut and barely finished it i had it medium well and still tender juicy amazing! !!!! My only qualm is the sides. I despise all things creamed and those are the only options. And i don't eat pork and wasn't aware it was in the spinach. I also can do without that pudding stuff. But meat and baked Potatoe all day!!!!

Yummm yummm yummm yumm yummmm in my tummy. We had a reservation for a weekday dinner. We got sat a little bit after it, but that's okay. I would expect that to happen at a busy place like this. I feel bad for the workers here. People stay over an hour after closing! Service was on point, for lack of a better term. Our server was awesome! Greeted us right away, took our orders, and took care of us throughout our whole meal. Salad and bread were delicious, but didn't want to fill ourselves up before our prime rib came. I got the English cut, and everyone else got the King Henry cut. The English cut is 4 thin slices of prime rib, while the King Henry cut is the biggest portion, and you get an extra thin slice if you finish it all. No take outs for that extra slide unless you wanna be sneaky though! I wasn't a big fan on the sides (mashed potato, baked potato, corn, and spinach), but the prime rib was so juicy and delicious. I didn't really need the sides anyways. We all had left overs to eat the next day which was awesome! Would def be coming back more often in the future.

One word: AMAZING. Beautiful atmosphere. Excellent service. Great food. I would recommend getting a reservation because this place was super packed for a Wednesday. The food portion was great especially since it's ~$40 per meal. However, if you order from the left side of the menu, it comes with a salad, the entree, a side of baked potato or mashed potatoes, and a side of spinach or corn. Our server was excellent and made the meal even better. Very attentive when it came to drink refills and checked up on us often. I brought my own cake for my bf's birthday so note there is a $4 per slice charge if you bring your own cake! I didn't mind. There is a valet parking in front of the restaurant or you can find street parking. Definitely coming back again!

HOPR is a S.F. staple and might as well be a landmark because it is well known by natives and tourists. Tonight was my first time dining on a weekday and it is much better to beat the crowd on weekday opposed to a weekend. But still reservations are highly suggested unless you want to walk in and be told the wait will be 2 to 2.5 hours. At which rate you'll be eating at around 9:00-9:30 pm. I always get the King Henry cut and at $45.00 and some change it is worth it for a nice, thick slab of meat cooked to almost perfection. They start you off with a big mound of sourdough bread which is fresh and warm. The salad isn't anything spectacular and has a light cherry vinaigrette dressing. The portion is huge but don't be fooled and load up on the bread/salad. With your choice of meat, you can choose from baked potatoe with all of the fixings (sour cream, bacon bits, chives and butter) or mashed potatoes. You definitely get more with the baked and they do not skimp on the toppings! Next, you can choose from the cream spinach with bacon bits or corn. Both are quite tastey but I prefer the spinach. Lastly, they provide a nice slab of yorkshire pudding that is very fluffy and pairs well with the au jus when you dip it. To round off the meal, they will bring 3 different horseradish sauces, mild, medium and hot. Hot will get your nose tingling! Lastly, don't forget to ask for the cornbread! This was one of the better cornbreads that I've ever had and it was brought right out of the oven. Our server didn't bring it until the end because they just baked it but it was a nice way to end the meal. How could I forget that they give you seconds with the King Henry cut but don't get too excited. It's a small sliver but it is very tender. The King cut is the star of the meal and is great each time I visit. Service was better tonight than other occasions. It was a bit odd that the back room was mostly filled with Asians. Just an observation, maybe it's because most were taking pictures with the flash going off so they don't want it blinding other patrons.

thank you for the amazing piece of meat and great service, but please do let me know when I can come back to eat in complete silence (if ever). it was everyone's birthday last night. if I hear another birthday song right now, I will not survive. too many tables and people piled into the dining room. that salad, why does it look like that?

Still amazing, I have never had a bad dinner here. I love the different variety of horseradish.

This use to be a childhood favorite for me. Now it's just a huge disappointment. I thought the quality and taste of the meat went down. The meat didn't have a nice marble it was just chunks of fat. This place was nothing like how I remembered. There was too much gristle and inedible parts throughout the entire meat. Everything was over salted, including the salad. Had to use my yorkshire pudding to soak up the over salted juice. Even the cream of spinach was over salted and the gravy on the mash potato. Definitely was not worth it. We left without finishing out steak, that's how bad it was. Probably the worst steakhouse I've been. A huge let down.

It was my 3rd time here, but my husband first time here. I decided to bring him here since he's never been and he LOVE prime rib rare. It was his birthday and he enjoyed every bit of it! Definitely a place to eat at, as a family, date or just because. Everything was good! Very happy for his first time.

It was everything I dreamed of and more! This is one of the best places I have had prime rib. It is juicy and succulent and it comes with three types of horseradish. My favorite was the creamy horseradish. I also enjoyed the salad which balanced out the big hunk of protein. I chose the house of prime rib cut, which was more than enough. I had some leftover to enjoy the next day yippee! And it was still delicious. It seems like parking would be a hassle but we chose valet since we came for a birthday occasion, so I would watch out for that. Will come back to satisfy my carnivorous cravings!

Valet was easy, seated in less than 15min, waiter was nice, wine was good, prime rib was great, cream of spinach and mashed potatoes were tasty. Price was more reasonable than i thought. Atmosphere was noisy with people who cant hold their liquor and restrooms were hard to find. But would definitely come back coz the food was good and the waiter was nice. Make a reservation. People without reservations were given a 3 1/2 hr wait. Yikes!

On Friday 12/20/14 I came here with friends. This is the 2nd visit as we are making this an annual Christmas tradition. I have been to similar restaurants but I must say that the House of Prime Rib is possibly in the top 2 and (Lawry's) is very close. I got the English cut rare and man, that prime beef is seasoned well and almost melts in yo mouth good! Needless to say, we'll be back next December and worth the drive.

reservations are must when you want to dine here or you will be waiting forever . Their prime rib is AMAZING and so is the Yorkshire pudding bread thing! their customer service is okay. Its always hard to find parking near hear so be prepared to do valet parking!

  • Tracy H.

The House of Prime Rib in my opinion serves the best prime rib. Checked out Lawry's Prime Rib in Las Vegas a few months ago and despite their wonderful art decco decor as well as the staffs uniform from that era, the prime rib was just ok. House of Prime is a San Francisco institution. The atmosphere feels very San Francisco and this comes from a San Franciscan. If you don't like prime rib this is not the place for you. They have prime rib in different cuts and the other option is the fresh fish of the day. This place seems crowded all the time, so I always make a reservation which is easy with your Yelp app. Sunday's seem less crowded and easier to get a last minute reservation. I can usually find street parking but sometimes have used there Valet service. Great place for birthdays, group gatherings and other special occasions. Check it out!

Love this place. Definitely make a reservation, unless you want to wait 2 hours. Best prime rib I've ever had (I'm partial to the English cut). Creamed spinach is great, get that over the creamed corn. Both baked and mashed potatoes are pretty good.

Why do I love this place so much?! If only they had more tables or availabilities when I wanted to go...but I'll happily wait for a table here. My favorite would have to be the salad. I'm not sure what kind of dressing it is, but I could eat that salad everyday and be happy. Haha...isn't it weird that my favorite thing at a steakhouse is the salad? But it's THAT good. The prime rib itself is amazing, too! It melts in my mouth. AND...if you finish, you can get a second slice of prime rib on the house! What place offers that?! *tip* - Creamed corn isn't an option on the menu, but you may ask for it to substitute the creamed spinach. Writing this review at night makes me hungry...and it's 12:32am...I better stop writing reviews at night!

Why haven't I reviewed this sooner? It's only amongst the most reviewed restaurants in SF, no longer a secret. Yelp wasn't around when I started eating at this iconic establishment at sixteen with my friends (no martinis for me lol). The King Henry cut sure wasn't $42 back then, and we would only come to celebrate something special. When we were on a budget as teenagers, we'd go to Tad's in Union Square when craving meat. With inflation, it's still worth it to get your meat on, as I always get seconds; although, they only serve a sliver of meat when it comes to seconds, don't expect another King Henry cut. What makes up for it are the creamed spinach and Yorkshire pudding - delicious! 'Nuff said =) yelp.com/biz_photos/hous… yelp.com/biz_photos/hous… yelp.com/biz_photos/hous… yelp.com/biz_photos/hous… yelp.com/biz_photos/yelp…

I know a lot of people love this place. Very hefty American meal. It was ok to me, but def just a try it once and I'm good for a while place. Very nice/friendly service though! Food: It's not as fancy pants as steakhouses that I'm more familiar with (where like filet mignon only is ~$40). Your choices are 1) petite prime rib 2) normal prime rib 3) thinly sliced prime rib 4) extra large sized piece of prime rib. Lol. Price wise all very similar like $40-$42 which comes with salad, potatoes, side creamed spinach or corn, and Yorkshire pudding? Aka hella food. You can get it "a la carte" which basically has everything besides the salad for $36. Either way, its a lot of food. The salad is pretty simple, but the shredded beets in it were amazing! Might be my favorite part of the meal!! Weird, I know. But it was so good!! Prime rib was good, but if I was going for a slab of beef I would probably prefer a steak more so. Creamed spinach was heavy to accompany the prime rib. Wish they offered steamed veggies. I ate about half the huge baked potato. Hmmm...if you like prime rib, you should go here. If not omg about it, maybe spend money elsewhere. Nonetheless, it's not too pricey either way.

Been here a couple of times and the food and service has always been good! But tonight we were here for a birthday and all I can say is I was very disappointed! Our waiter was rude and so was the meat carver dude they really compliment themselves a bunch of a## h####. Our food took forever and service was very vague and non existent. This was suppose to be a special night and they forgot our birthday request we had to tell our waiter about our request by then the mood had gone sour and it didn't help that our waiter was very rude about us taking our leftover which we do all the time. Since I was very upset with all the hiccups I went and spoke to a manager I believe his name was Scott he was apologetic and said he would make our experience better next time. I appreciate his effort but I didn't drop a bunch of money to have a bad night if I were him I would've fixed the issue right away! But hey not all of us believe in excellent customer service. I probably will have to move on from this place.

Having been to SF twice. I have been to the House twice. One of the best recommendations by good ol man Anthony Bourdain. Before entering the house, even as a first timer you must bring your A-Game appetite. This is clearly a San Francisco institution and it needs to be treated appropriately. They are not messing around by any means. The portions are massive and I still have yet to dive for the 2nd on the house cut of delicious prime rib. I will always try my best to stop by the house everytime I visit. This place is a must.

Hands down the best prime rib I have ever eaten in my lifetime! I would definitely recommend making a reservation because the hype is real. Everything about this fine dining experience was amazing. The side salad was tossed and served chilled at the table, all of the sides were delicious, and the prime rib speaks for itself. If you order the King Arthur cut, and finish it, you can get another small piece of meat and sides until you are full. Basically like ayce prime rib! I love this place and will definitely be back.

I had an absolutely amazing celebratory dinner here last night. The food is absolutely incredible. The meat was perfect. The baked potato was fantastic, and I don't even typically like baked potatoes. For each of the options my partner got one and I got the other so we could try everything. In my opinion the baked potato (opposed to mashed) is the choice to get: comes with sour cream, chives, and bacon, and is just generally amazing. They bring out the potatoes and fluff and stuff them right in front of you. I thought the creamed corn was better than the creamed spinach but they were both great. I had medium rare steak and my partner got medium well and both were delicious. We got the a la cart option (which is everything except salad) so we BARELY had room for dessert. I sampled the bread pudding and the creme brulee. Again, both were delicious. The creme brulee was a much larger serving than I expected, so I was lucky I was sharing it. Yes the place is a tad pricey, but for $36 dollars I got an incredible big prime rib, a baked potato, creamed spinach, an english pudding/pancake thing, and two kinds of bread (regular and corn bread). I would say that I wouldn't come back too often for the sake of my waistline, but otherwise would definitely recommend it for special occasions and the like. They are also kid friendly and have a $12 kids meal available. I am soooo sad I am moving out of the city next month, but I would love to come back here if I visit SF in the future.

A San Francisco tradition! The menu is simple - prime rib or the catch of the day - but what can you expect from a place called House of Prime Rib? The food is fantastic and flavorful! Service is top notch! It does it get busy and the bar waiting area fills up fast while people wait for their tables.

  • Krystal O.

The House of Prime Rib is surely one of the quintessential restaurants in San Francisco. The beauty of House of Prime Rib is the simplicity of the menu. As the waiter will explain, you can choose the size of your cut, ranging from the City Cut, a thinner cut for smaller appetites, to the King Henry VIII Cut, an extra thick slice that usually comes bone-in. The prime rib also comes with an array of sides as well. You can choose between a fully loaded baked, or buttery mashed potatoes, to go along with creamed spinach or creamed corn. All of which are not overwhelmingly salty or creamy, but compliment the meat very, very well. You also get a fresh Yorkshire Pudding on your plate as soon as your food arrives, and you get to soak up all the juices from the prime rib & au jus! This is a wonderful place to enjoy in San Francisco on a lovely night out. Just make sure you make a reservation in advance!

All you need is a City Cut, mash, your wife and daughter, and a picture with my old friend Joe Betz (owner) for the perfect 14th wedding anniversary dinner. Valet is $10 and the car is brought fast.

We had been planning for a couple of years to dine at the house of prime rib and had high expectations. The start to the meal began with a $26.00 double Crown on the rocks (OUCH!) The salad was very good and made my wife very happy. My king cut was about a twelve ounce cut which was supposed to be fifteen. It was accompanied with about three to four table spoons of very runny mashed potatoes and about the same amount of creamed spinach. I will say the prime rib was very tender but lacked seasoning and flavor terribly. I can't say the meal was bad i just am not sure what all the hype was about. Lawreys is what this place copied is still much better. I won't be back.

  • Greta R.

I LOVE this place. My only complaint is that it has gotten so popular, it's hard to get a table here same day, even during the week. I've been going here for almost 20 years. I used to live within walking distance and it was my favorite 'don't feel like cooking really in the mood for a steak' place. The decor is the true definition of "old school". The cocktails come with the shaker with a second drink in the shaker. Every part of the meal is amazing. Be prepared though, it is a very simple menu - how big of a cut of prime rib do you want, how do you want it cooked, baked or mashed, creamed spinach or corn. Those are your choices. However, be prepared for one of the finest meals you'll ever have. What makes it even better is that it's really quite reasonable, especially for a steak in San Francisco. Worth the wait for a reservation.

House of Prime Rib... how do I even start this.. first of all, when I first walked in with my family, I already notice loud talking, which usually means it is a good restaurant, I went to ask for seats of 3, and they said it was a 2 hour wait, it was currently 7:00pm since we asked for seats, we waited a long time, bought a drink, asked for some peanut snacks, and still, we didn't get our seats yet!!! it's been nearly 3 hours!!!!!! We finally got seated a little before 10. Our waiter, Aaron, looked nice/friendly and introduced himself, after, my mom tried talking, but he was too busy interrupting her talking about if we've been to this restaurant. he was very rude. I spoke loud and he couldn't manage to hear over all that talking in the restaurant, so I had to raise my voice for him to hear me order the King steak. after, I wanted to order the English cut?? so I spoke to him in a loud tone, but he still manage to not hear me, so he put his hand up to his ear and went up close to me and said "HUH" ... that's it ... I don't want to eat here anymore, after 50 minutes or so, the steak finally came. fun fact: it looked gross. when I tried it, my guess was right because it did tasted pretty damn gross, the spinach tasted like crap, the steak didn't have good taste in it, it just tasted like any other buffet steaks, but shortly after tasting the disgusting meat, my stomach started hurting, like real bad. I wanted to leave immediately. After we finished our pretty damn disgusting meal, we asked for our check... $116 ¡!¡! that's only for 2 steaks and a tiny drink!!! what kind of ripoff is this?! to be honest, I won't want to come back to this ruined place again. the only highlight about this place was the sourdough bread, it was pretty much the only WARM thing to eat there, and by the way, the salad was gross too. found a piece of hair in it.. ew who even wants to eat here¿? not me. not my family. worst steak ever. I rather eat leftovers from Chinese food.

Absolutely delicious, and our server, Aaron, was excellent - charming, attentive, yet not overbearing... The prime rib itself totally hit the spot, and I loved that there were three kinds of horseradish offered (I personally like the pure version, but the creamiest one was more popular with this kids). Price was totally reasonable, and ordering was a breeze, considering all you really had to ponder on was what kind of cut you wanted. The hubby and I are getting to that age where we can't be eating red meat too often, but this is a great place to get your carnivore on!!! - Oh yeah, reservations are a must!!!

Bleh, I asked for medium rare and got well done. When my friend told them they had overcooked my meat and they brought me another piece it had no flavor. Also, sat in my stomach like a brick. Props on their salad, was VERY delicious.

i will preface this review with the fact that i dont typically enjoy a large hunk of red meat. it's a lot of food! i've been here on two prior occasions that werent very enjoyable because i didnt prepare myself for the food portion...and what do you do with leftover prime rib really?! REALLY!! so, this time, i didnt eat all day before our 5:30 pm ressie, made sure to run beforehand, and walked to the restaurant. so i came prepared with an appetite. killed the delicious salad. its so good, and the service tableside is a treat because the servers seem to enjoy performing as well. ate a slice of corn bread, but skipped the loaf. i got the house of prime rib cut with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes, and of course sopped up all the juices with the yorkshire pudding! i got my cut medium rare, and it was so delicious! super tender and juicy... and the meal is really affordable! the wine list is also rather impressive. all around great choice for family, friends, date night...

We here for Valentines Day and they are strict.. I was running late and they said you have 15 mins or else... So my wife and I made it with a couple mins to spare.. They had valet which makes everything great! The prime rib was delicious I was not big on the spinach sides.. Potato was delicious.. It's kind of expensive... Must try! There are so many great places to eat steak in the city but probably the best for Prime Rib..The service was fast and they kinda of rushed you a little because its so popular and without resrvations you probably wait at least an hour!

We arrived almost 25 minutes early for our reservation and they were able to seat us right away. As everyone else has stated, it was packed, but we had made a reservation almost a month in advance. Our server showed up right away to open the bottle of wine we brought and our food order was taken promptly. We were seated in one of the smaller rooms, but the ambiance was still very nice, although it was a bit loud - which was to be expected. Salad came out quickly and the rest of our food followed shortly after. I ordered the House of Prime Rib Cut and my boyfriend ordered the King Henry Cut. Creamed spinach, creamed corn, yorkshire pudding and mashed potatoes were all delectable, the meat was cooked to perfection. To finish the meal we ordered a slice of the raspberry cheesecake and apple crumble. I personally enjoyed the apple crumble much more, but they were both good. Overall, it was a great dining experience! I can't wait to go back again.

This place is amazing if you like meat and you are hungry. Everything was delicious and the staff was really friendly. The prime rib was perfect!

This place was our first meal when we arrive in SF, and it did NOT disappoint. As we were eating, my husband and I barely said a word to each other because we were both having a personal experience with our plates. Once we got there, they told us it would be a 2.5 hour wait. We decided to just wait for seats at the bar, and we were seated in under an hour. Both of us ordered the house of prime rib cut, and it came with bread, salad, Yorkshire pudding, creamed spinach, and mashed potatoes. Man, it was good. So tender, just swimming in au jus and really freaking delicious. All the sides complimented each other....crap now my mouth is watering as I write this. Can't wait to go again!

This place does not live up to its hype. The Salad is basic, something you would get a cafeteria, the Prime Rib is ok- I should note that I am not a huge Prime Rib fan but when it is done right I thoroughly enjoy it. And the Mashed potatoes are nothing spectacular. The thing that I loved was the Sour Dough bread that comes to your table in a slab. But let's be honest.. we are not here to pay for bread.

I think of this place as the Lawry's of SF. Now I know this place has a lot of history and it's not a chain like Lawry's but they're very similar in terms of food. I do have to say, I think this place is better. +Juicy and delicious prime rib, cut table side. The Au Jus is delicious though I do think it tastes slightly like soy sauce (is it just me?) and the meat is swimming in it. If you like Au Jus then you'll love it. +Yorkshire Pudding that's sopping up all the Au Jus. Though it starts getting a little soggy for my taste so I had to move it on to a side plate. +Spicy horse radish. I think they referred to it as the pink or red one. It has a nice kick and helps cut the heaviness of the prime rib! -Sides. I thought the salad was a little too overdressed and tasted like secret sauce (mayo & ketchup). Creamed spinach and corn were okay, heavy and not spectacular. I did however like the baked potato but you can't really go wrong with that. Pro Tips: 1. Make a reservation 2. If you finish your first serving or prime rib, they will serve you another piece! 3. If you ask nicely they'll give you more sides as well

By far my favorite place to grub in SF! The staff and atmosphere are amazing. The prime rib is superb and the sides are wonderful as well. Try not to eat too much salad and bread before the main course because it's very filling! The spicy horse radish is so good and clears the sinuses. Ha!

This is a great go to place for some delicious steak, but you better have made a reservation a month in advance if you want to watch them toss the salad around. I usually get the king Henry steak, and it always hits the spot. I usually get full after their meal which comes with salad Yorkshire pudding and the steak. They usually let you pick 2 additional sides

What can I say about this place, that hasn't already been said? I Yelp'd HOPR prior to my visit to the City this past weekend. I mean,4688 people CAN'T be wrong. Thank you fellow Yelpers for all your input and personal experiences. I knew this place was the real deal and would live up to the hype. Now,onto my review... It was going to be a 2hr wait and I didn't want my stomach lining to feed on itself,so my Family and I opted for dinner service at the Bar.We were warmly greeted by Paul. He was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. We never felt rushed and thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. Everything here is PHENOMENAL!!! Great Salad, piping hot Bread and if you're a Carnivore like me,you'll enjoy the King Henry VIII cut...it was so good,I was even tempted to eat the fat. Considering this is SF,I feel you get value for $$$ here at HOPR. I highly recommend this place to any tourists or even peeps familiar to the City, but haven't gotten a chance to eat here. Don't know if this was an option, but I would've loved to have substituted the Creamed Spinach for Double Mashed Potatoes&Gravy. I was a Yorkshire Pudding virgin and was envisioning the kind that Brian Ray served at Fenwick Arms(Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares episode),but this one wasn't quite as fluffy, but delicious nonetheless. I'd award HOPR a Michelin Star if I could.

I went to House of Prime Rib for the first time last week! I heard many great things about this place so I had to check it out myself! I ordered the House of Prime Rib cut for $41. I thought it was just a fancy place that liked to charge highly, but you really get what you paid for. I was served a really awesome salad, fresh sourdough bread, cornbread, mashed potatoes, cream of corn, bread pudding, the prime rib and even seconds!! It was well worth it!! The bread was so gooood. I tried not to eat the whole roll because I was waiting for the meat. When the rib came out I was super excited and everyone was right! It does cut like butter! I ordered the medium well and it was perfect! My bf got the medium rare and it was a bit bloody.. But he likes it that way. The best part of this meal was that I was able to get seconds! It's really A LOT of food, but I couldn't stop eating. So I suggest you come prepared and don't eat too much before! Also! I would like to add that the service was amazing!! Our server's name was Danny. He was funny and made our first time there enjoyable. :)

These 5 stars go out to Danny, our waiter for the evening! Really spectacular, fantastic, by far best service ever. You're obviously well traveled thus your ability to connect with people through conversation is of no surprise. Thanks again! Oh yes btw, house of prime rib food? fantastic, duh :P

Horrible experience! Booked and confirmed in advance for my birthday dinner group of 10. Showed up and found out they booked my reservation on the wrong month!! They know it's their mistake but they didn't even apologize or even looked like they cared once. They still wanted me to wait 2.5 hours to be seated....ridiculous!! As if any one would wait that long.. I never write reviews but given today's experience, I needed to give them a low rating for ruining my birthday plans. This place has so many customers, you won't be important or valued to them. Sad

Like a fine wine, this place gets better every year- I swear. My first time to HOPR was a few years ago and after taking a bit of a hiatus, I decided to come back to treat a friend for their birthday. I was beyond impressed! We arrived a little late for our reservation but started with a few martinis at the bar while we waited. After enjoying our drinks for a few minutes, someone came by calling my name and voila! Our table was ready. Once seated, our awesome waiter came by to go over the menu again and we ordered: The City Cut (under 10 oz) which was perfect size for me along with creamed corn, and mashed potatoes with gravy. The prime rib was so flavorful and sides were on point. The best part (besides the prime rib ) was the salad with beets and their special house dressing that I can only describe as thousand island / in and out secret sauce blend. It's been weeks but I'm still dreaming of this meal...must find another occasion to go soon!

I have gotten the meat sweats here twice so far. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I just tend to get the 'meat sweats' as I call it after eating a large amount of meat. First visit, I came with a bunch of my best guy friends, I'm a lady btw, while I was 9 months pregnant. Yeah, you heard that. My big fat pregnant ass was craving for some meat. Of course, I couldn't pack away as much as I may have wanted to eat since a living creature took up a majority of my abdomen. We got seated in the back, which was much quieter than the very loud front room/area. Much quieter and more intimate even though it is still loud. Salad was bomb. Hard to not want to eat all of it. Bread was bomb. Our waiter was kind enough to remind us to not fill up on the bread, so we ate none of it and packed it for to go. I got the dainty lady prime rib aka the 3 thinly sliced meats. It was a challenge for me to put it down and I don't think I even was able to. 2 of the 4 men did have their free seconds. I believe they did pay for it later. Then we decide we needed dessert. The chocolate cake says it's for 2. There were 5 of us (6 if you included the baby inside of me), so rightfully so we ordered the tiramisu too. Don't do that. Especially if no one's huge on dessert and also if you're already full. The size of the desserts is ginormous. THE CHOCOLATE CAKE THOUGH...the entire time I was thinking "Man, I really hope they stop eating the cake so I can take it home and devour it while sitting on the couch watching Netflix before this baby pops out." I'm not even kidding. I dreamt of the cake many weeks after. That brings us to... The second visit, not pregnant, but postpartum wise still in the crazy hormone and sweating phase (you know what I'm talking about moms). I was craving that cake. Am I tripping? We booked it for our 2 year wedding anniversary. Baby being babysat with grandma and what do I think we should do for this very rare date night? Get the meat sweats. Fill myself to the brim with so much food that we would be incapable of making another child that night. This time around, we were sat in the front. Like literal front. It was so very loud and our waiter wasn't as attentive. This did not bode well for my recent concussion injury. Nonetheless, food still good, but ambiance not as nice. I think this time around we also got drinks in the bar area while waiting for our reservation. A lot of tiny babies which just reminded me of my baby at home and wondering why these babies were out past their bedtimes! That being said, I've had my fill of HoPR for awhile... but now I'm thinking about that cake again.

Ah, House of Prime Rib. My history with them is that I scheduled a visit with an old boyfriend but couldn't stay with him long enough to make it to our scheduled visit. With my current boyfriend, I tentatively made plans to come, hoping that the curse wouldn't last. But we made it to the day (and we're still together), and we were lucky enough to be the first group seated. Really, House of Prime Rib is dinner and a show. You get this delicious sourdough that you really should try to resist eating, so that you have room to eat everything else. You get this hand spun salad that our waiter very showily made for us, and it was very impressive. The star of course is the prime rib. It was delicious, but I couldn't eat the proffered second slice. The creamed spinach was delicious, but also too much. No room for dessert here. Come late, if you can, and come with a big appetite.

This is the place I request my bf to take me every time we need to celebrate something (birthday, new job, any day of the week, etc.) HOPR is always a great freaking idea. Think I can't finish all of my King Henry? THINK AGAIN!!! #imafatty!!!

After hearing great things about this place, I had to stop by during my visit to San Francisco. I booked my reservation a month in advance and to my surprise, they were already running out of tables. The prime rib was the star of the dish; tender, flavorful, delicious goodness! They even give you another (smaller) slice after you're done with the first one. The creamed spinach was a little too salty for my taste. The Yorkshire and mashed potatoes were on point though. Next time I'm visiting San Francisco, I'll definitely be stopping by again.

I've always had outstanding meals here. it's a classic - been around forever and they do it well. Me and some buddys stop at the bar for a round or 2, then go to the table and eat lots of meat. The last time I was there was for a friend's b-day, Tory, the Mythbuster himself, funny dude. It was 7 guys, I brought 2 bottles of wine and we bought a bottle - no bottle charge that night which was sweet. Excellent cuts of meat and some of the slimmer boys bought Salmon ?!? at the House of Prime Rib. I guess their wives told them to eat sensible - they said it was good but also felt foolish for not ordering meat at The Meat House - House of Meat.

Service was on point! Reservation seating time was precise! Food was plentiful for one price! Most prime rib places have you order the sides a la carte and you end up with an even heftier bill and a massive amount of leftover sides. At HOPR you get served individual portions of a starch and a veg, Yorkshire pudding, and the famous spinning salad. I haven't even mentioned the main star of the event the BEEF! OMG melt in your mouth good. The au jus that surrounds it just pairs well with the beef and I sopped up any remaining jus with the pudding. Yum!!

Eating here feels like eating at Christmas dinner - good food, cozy atmosphere and people chatting it up having a good time. My boyfriend and I came here last night for the first time. We booked a reservation one week in advance, so the only available opening on a Friday night was 9:30pm. To my surprise, the time actually worked out well - street parking was easy to find steps away from the restaurant so there was no need for valet (and it's free after 6pm), we got seated immediately, and the restaurant slowly became less crowded. The menu is about as simple as that of in'n out. It's minimal - you get a house salad (which is very tasty by the way), and choose a cut and two sides. I got the prime rib cut. It's not as thin as the City cut and not as thick as the King Henry, and I thought it was a perfect balance between tenderness and juiciness. My boyfriend got the King Henry, which was a more massive, thicker piece of meat. Prime rib loses a lot of it its juiciness when you cut it, but you won't have that problem with the King Henry. My only dislike was that my meat had quite a bit of fat and was a little salty, but the sides complemented it very well. The corn and spinach sides are good, but they don't level up to the mashed potatoes. The baked potato is ginormous, and they stuff it like crazy. I wasn't sure if I was scooping chunks of potato or sour cream because that thing was drenched, haha. For dessert, we got the apple crisp which was a 5/5. A perfect combination of apples, nuts, caramel and ice cream aka heaven in your mouth! Our server was Amy, and she was awesome! Very friendly and attentive. This place is packed, so it's nice to know that your server hasn't forgotten about you. The restaurant itself is large. They have multiple rooms, some more dimly lit than others but overall a very warm atmosphere. It's pretty noisy, which didn't bother me at all, but if you're looking for an extremely intimate one-on-one dinner setting, this might not be the place for you. Also, if it's a special occasion like it was in our case, you get a photo of yourself with a little frame to take home. Nothing huge, but still very thoughtful. Overall, I would come back.

A friend planned a group outing at the House of Prime for our SF getaway. No words can describe how soft and cooked the meat was for a rare King Henry Cut. I prefer my steaks and meat cooked medium rare where it's not dry. There was NO disappointment here. I had it with mashed potatoes and cream of corn goodness! I did finish the portion and was given the opportunity to get another cut, but didn't want to push it.

My husband and I were excited to have dinner at what we heard was a San Francisco staple. We spontaneously decided to check it out - which you should not do - make a reservation ahead of time. Despite the crowd, we were lucky enough to be seated at the bar. The inside had a great ambiance, and a very unique feel to it, we were very excited to eat there! Our experience went south within minutes of being seated. My husband requested a drink, to which the bartender responded "sure thing", however instead of serving him, he chose to put away glasses, ring up receipts and handle people walking up to the bar. My husband tried to be patient, but lost it, as he watched others being served while he continued to wait. He finally spoke up, and received his drink, but after being ignored, the mood was ruined and the energy awkward between us and the bartender/server. To make matters worse the salad was soggy, the prime rib was cold, and we sat with dirty dishes in front of us while others were cleared. My husband asked for the manager and shared our frustration about the experience. Our first, and last, visit.

Everything was perfect; service and food. I could not complain about anything. I'm not really a person who loves meat but the city cut prime rib I got was pretty good along with the au jus. Of course because there were so many other things to eat even before the prime rib came I couldn't finish it and ended up taking out 3 boxes to go! Overall, I would recommend this place of you're craving prime rib.

I came here for the first time with my best friend for his birthday. It was hard to get reservations at a decent time so we ended up with a 930pm reservation. Parking is definitely easier after prime dinner time. When we first arrived we got there a few minutes early and we were seated immediately. We were seated in a side room. My biggest gripe was the fact that they sat us next to this big group of softball players who were drunk and excessively loud. We couldn't even speak to each other without shouting. Kings cut: 4/5: super flavorful & tasty but had way too much fat. I cut out several large fat slivers from my piece. It was cooked to perfection though, it was medium rare and very filling. I like how you can have a extra slice and a choice of sides. We definitely liked the creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. For dessert, we got vanilla ice cream due to the fact that it was my friends birthday! It was a nice touch to end the meal. The next time I have a special occasion or just because I dont mind coming back here again. Hopefully next time I won't get seated next to some really loud people. Total for 2 w/ tax and tip: $130

Another wonderful meal tonight. End cut one of the best I've had. Salad, mashed potatoes and bread excellent as always. Dropped a star this time as the Yorkshire pudding was dry and overdone. We asked for seconds and while better, still below their usual par. Plus, the cornbread stick was dry too. Little off tonight but still the greatest place.

Wow! What an amazing prime rib. Their menu here is pretty straightforward: - Small steak - Medium steak - Medium steak thin sliced - Large steak You also pick between just a couple options for your side dish, and that's it! It's kind of refreshing to not have to think hard about what you're going to eat. Just for that, this place gets a star. The meat itself is unbelievable. They cut it right in front of you, and it is tender and juicy as anything I've ever had. They also give you an assortment of horseradish sauces to dip in if you're so inclined. I would definitely eat here again!

Love this place - amazing prime rib and a genuine SF establishment that has been a landmark of the city for ages. Pros: generous portions of big slabs of prime rib and cream spinach along with salad and mashed potatoes. The taste is always rich and deep. The prime ribs are almost always even for fat and meat proportions. Cons: They don't serve anything other than prime rib here so don't complain if you're a customer that wants something else or can't eat beef. It even says House of Prime Ribs so it already sounds pretty correct of a place to me. - summary: No complains, the restaurant serves what it promises.

HOPR isn't usually the place I would go if I was craving steak, but I recently came here for a group dinner. I've been here before, but didn't feel the need to come again. The prime rib is supposed to be the star attraction, but it really pales in comparison to all the other sides that comes with it. The bread is really good, very hard to resist especially if you're trying not to eat too much before the steak comes. The salad comes in a big portion, and the dressing is amazing. The mashed potatoes made me wish I had a second serving, it was delicious. And the prime rib? Sure, it was done well enough to my liking, and the horse radish makes the meat taste really good. But the au jus, it was so salty. That ruined the flavor of the steak for me. Not a fan. I didn't finish my portion this time, but you could get a second serving of prime rib. For $40, everything adds up well. Service is attentive, and our waiter was friendly and helpful.

My Partner and I celebrate Birthdays at the House of prime Rib every year. Thought it was time to let the world know how fantastic the service is. Everyone knows the food is out of this world, but it would not be as tasty with out the wait staff. Last night we sat at the bar and was waited on by a very nice lady named Jess. Made us feel very special. Then at our table we were waited on by Sean. He took are of us and all his tables with graciousness and flair. Anyone who has not had the privilege of dining at the House of prime rib, needs to treat them selves now.

Oh god. Meat sweats. I don't think there's anything I can say that hasn't already been said. Just do yourself a favor and make a reservation here. HOPR was PACKED the entire time we were there. The restaurant is huge, and they definitely have service down to a science. Prime rib is carved table side and all meals are served with sourdough bread, jalapeño cornbread, salad, creamed spinach, yorkshire pudding and either mashed or a baked potato. The $39-$45 price point is justified when you factor everything in. I can easily spend $40+ on just a steak, with no sides elsewhere, so this is fab. We went with the HOPR cut and the King Henry VIII cut. I wish we had known that you can ask for another slice if you finish the King Henry. Prime rib was tender, flavorful, and perfectly medium rare. I can't even imagine how many cows this place must go through on an average week....

Did I ever mention that I am a carnivore? House of Prime Rib is made for people like me. My lovely friends invited me there because I got into business school and they probably won't see me again for the next couple of years. We were able to score a reservation for 4 on a Friday night, calling just 1 day in advance (that's a miracle in SF!). I love the old school setting and service. Our server was more like a performer. I enjoyed watching him toss the salad and explain the menu options (it didn't hurt that he was really cute). I didn't eat very much of the salad, however, as I was saving room for the main course. And then it came! Three beautiful, thin slices of perfectly cooked prime rib (English Cut). OMG, the meat was super tender and delicious. I enjoyed soaking up the juices with the Yorkshire pudding. I was full after three slices but I couldn't pass up seconds. It was such a great dinner and the price is super reasonable. ~$40 for salad, more than you can eat prime rib, and several sides is a bargain!

Oh, Lord. You really just have to go, if only for the experience. A San Francisco institution. Firstly, reserve in advance; they fill up fast. Secondly, don't bother with the salad; that's not why you're here. Thirdly, you really have only one decision to make and that is small, medium, or large (read: the size of your Prime Rib. Because that is what you are ordering. If you are ordering something else, why are you here?) Fantastic & entertaining service, & a decent wine list. Pricey, obviously, but cheaper than many steakhouses I've been do. I'm not sure I need to go here more than once every ten years, but it was definitely worth going once, like I said, for the experience.

A true testament as to an institution never wavering on quality and service over the years. What can I say, the food is always excellent, I'm almost full after the salad. The Yorkshire pudding is a treat that gets no better then at HoPR. Meat is always fantastic, service is ALWAYS professional and well timed. I read some of the other reviews here. One Yelper complains that is was too crowded. Jeez, sorry to have one of the most popular, best and oldest eateries in SF, crowded, what a maroon. And the one cat who said they discriminated against Latinos. I have no words for such buffoonery. Really, how did this said discrimination show itself; maybe it's you!!! Enough about that. Go to the House of Prime Rib and enjoy your evening as an evening is meant to be enjoyed, good service, great food, a vibrant but not overwhelming environment, and an atmosphere open to all, no matter where your from, even New Jersey.

Welcome to the buzzing word of House of Prime Rib, one of the city's most renowned Steak houses. Every table taken during dinner time, make reservations well in advance. Expensive, but not over the top. You will be rewarded with excellent and efficient service and a good dining experience. Your meal will consist of your choice of Prime Rib ($39-$45), mashed potatoes, mashed spinach, and bread. A plate of salad upfront is also included. That being said, $40 on average is in my opinion justified. The cut itself is served bloody red. Even "medium rare" will get you a (very large) cut that is dripping red. You gotta love that. If not - like me - you won't fully enjoy your meal as even the "medium" is very red. The Prime Rib was very tender and juicy and is being served in their own tasty sauce. And, like I said, the portion is HUGE. Well worth the money. Just be prepared... you'll see and eat RED.

Seems fairly obvious, but come hungry...like really. This isn't a place for the weak at heart because the only thing in your future is a full stomach, meat sweats, and MUCH HAPPINESS. It was definitely a great choice for a birthday dinner with friends! I suppose it's easy to perfect the recipe when you only serve four items off the menu, and all four of those things are just different cuts of the same thing. You know it's as fresh as it going to get when they bring the meat cart around and slice the prime rib right in front of you. Of course I was only ever going to go as deep as possible, so the King Henry VIII cut it was. So much tenderness and flavor with the meat, easily some of the best prime rib I've ever had! I'm not even sure how the hell I made it to the extra mini cut of meat...let's just say I was in some serious pain after that. I must note that I was fairly annoyed that even though I had a standing reservation for a party of 10, I still had to wait about 45 minutes before getting seated. And this was before 6 PM! But I guess it comes with the territory with how busy the damn place gets.

Antonio, you are a pro. Last night I was taken out for my birthday dinner at HoPR, finally checking it off my bucket list. It's definitely a birthday spot: within five minutes of being seated, we heard three different tables sing happy birthday. Anyway, I ordered the HoPR Cut, but was more fond of my companion's English cut (so very tender!), and I wasn't amazed by the house salad, but everything else was excellent. The service surpassed the food as well. Our server, Antonio, was incredible at anticipating our needs, and taking care of our wants before we knew we had them. He was also kind enough to offer me a little more prime rib when I enthusiastically finished off my meat slab. Conclusion: totally lives up to the hype.

My first time here If i could give this place 0 stars I would, lets start off my saying there was cockroaches in the bathroom and there service was horrible it was a busy night so I gave them a pass and let it slide they mixed up everyone's dinners we had a party of 9 so when the check came we told them about the mistakes they made the owner is a old grumpy man and he walks up to our table yelling and saying "pay ($450) and leave get out!!" And says he is calling police to come if we don't leave anyway I thought that was very unprofessional and will never come back and will be telling my friends and family from San Francisco about this horrible experience as well oh yeah and there was a fly in my mothers wine ew!!!

This is our go to place when we need a prime rib beef fix. No muss, no fuss. They only serve prime rib (there is also a fish selection, but why?). This is not a place to go if you have any eating issues or need to have lengthy discussions about the origin and preparation of the food. Last night I got the 'English Cut' and spouse got the 'House Cut'. His was thick and on the bone, mine was several thinner slices with no bone. Both delicious. Sides were creamed spinach and mashed for hubby and creamed spinach and a baked potato with all the fixins' for me. The potato was huge and a meal in itself. Love the combo of three horseradishes they provide. I go for the really spicy one mixed with a little of the medium one. The salad and Yorkshire pudding are also wonderful. Don't know if it is bad form or not, but love to sop up a little 'au jus' with the Yorkshire pudding. Pre dinner cocktails (Martini & Manhattan) were both classically and perfectly prepared and served in their own cocktail shakers. All said, a very satisfying experience. A plus is that we had enough leftovers for dinner the next night. We've been before and will be back again.

We got there forty min before our reservation and they seated us right away. Food was great and so were the drinks. The food was amazing but I probably wouldn't go back mostly because of the price. I got the city cut with spinach and a baked potato. Sides were great. The prime rib was good , I ordered it well done which I regret! The Manhattan was amazing!
